Can You Move Existing Water Treatment Systems to a New Home?

You are here: Home / Water Softeners / Can You Move Existing Water Treatment Systems to a New Home?

May 2, 2018 by ncwater

Any time that you are moving to a new home, you have to decide what you’re taking with you and what you’re leaving behind. This decision is often the hardest when it comes to your home’s appliances. Do you want to buy all new appliances for your home or would you rather use the appliances you already have? This is an especially tricky decision when it comes to water softeners and/or water filtration systems, so today we’re going to help you decide by answering the question, “Can you move existing water treatment systems to a new home?”

Can you move existing water treatment systems to a new home?

First and foremost, we’ll answer the most basic question. Yes, it is possible to move an existing water treatment system to a new home. A water treatment professional like North Carolina Water Consultants can dissemble and package your system for you and, if possible, reinstall it in your new home. But as you’ll see below, just because you can take your water treatment system doesn’t mean you always should.

Reasons to consider leaving your water treatment systems

  • Water quality at your new home might be different. If the installation process of your water treatment system was done right, your home’s water should have been tested first. Then, a system should have been chosen to address those specific problems. Your new home’s water quality might be very different, in which case you might need a different style of system to address the water quality issues in your new home.
  • The size of your systems might not match your new home. Both the physical size and the capacity of your water treatment system should match the specifications of your home. If your new home is larger or smaller than your current home, or if there is a difference in the amount of available space, your current system might not be suitable in size for your new home.
  • Leaving your water treatment systems can be a selling point. Having a water treatment system can actually increase the value of your home, which can help you negotiate a better selling price. In addition, if your home is left on the market for a while, keeping water treatment systems installed will prevent any stains from developing on your plumbing fixtures.

Reasons to consider taking your water treatment systems with you

  • You like how your current system performs. There are many different types of water treatment systems to choose from, so when you find one that you like it can be hard to let go of it. If your current system matches well with your new home, you might want to take it with you since you already have trust in it.
  • You just recently purchased your new system. If you just recently invested in a water treatment system and a sudden change in circumstances forces you to move, you might not be ready to choose and install an entirely new system for your next home. Again, if your current system matches well with your new home, you might want to consider taking it with you.

If you have any questions about moving an existing water treatment system to a new home, or if you’d like a water system serviced or installed in your home, contact North Carolina Water Consultants, your water softener and water filtration system dealer in North and South Carolina.
