Ready for a Water Softener Replacement? Ask Yourself These 5 Questions Before Installing a New Unit

If you’re in the market for a new water softener, it’s helpful to know how the water softening process works so that you can understand all of the features of the system that you choose. One of the most important steps of that process is the regeneration cycle. Today we’re going to talk about what you should know about a water softener’s regeneration cycle and the advantages of the Hague WaterMax’s Absolute Brining.

Why is a water softener regeneration cycle needed?

A water softener contains resin beads that have sodium ions attached to them. When hard water enters the softener, calcium and magnesium ions replace those sodium ions in order to remove those hardness minerals from your water. After a certain period of time, all of the resin beads in your softener will contain calcium and magnesium and the water softening process will no longer be effective. At this point, your softener needs to go through its regeneration cycle.

How does a water softener regeneration cycle work?

During the regeneration cycle, your tank is washed with a solution of salt and water known as brine. When this happens, sodium ions from the salt water are reattached to all of the resin beads in your tank and the calcium and magnesium ions are flushed out. After the regeneration cycle, the water softening process can begin again.

The Hague WaterMax’s Absolute Brining makes the regeneration cycle more efficient

In most water softeners, the same amount of salt is added during every regeneration cycle. This wastes a certain amount of salt because some regeneration cycles require less salt than others. The Hague WaterMax has an exclusive feature known as Absolute Brining that eliminates this problem. Before every regeneration cycle, the WaterMax adjusts the salt dosage based on how much salt is needed for that specific cycle. This ensures that your water softener never wastes salt!

If you have any questions about a water softener’s regeneration cycle, or if you’d like a water treatment system serviced or installed in your home, contact North Carolina Water Consultants. We provide Hague water filtration system installations in North and South Carolina, including towns like Wadesboro, Casar and Mount Pleasant, NC.
